Tomato Pie

SO! We are going to Idaho/Oregon this weekend and I had a lot of stuff in the fridge that needed to be cooked before we left…so I decided to make a tomato pie. It came out GREAT!!!

Step 1: Bake frozen pie crust on 350 for about 5-10 minutes so the crust isnt soggy when you put the filling in. DONT BROWN IT!

Step 2: Sautee onions and red bell pepper on low so they caramelize. Add a dash of Braggs for saltyness.

Step 3: Cut  baby tomatos in half and sautee with a dollop of honey and salt to taste

Step 5: Layer onions on the bottom of the pie crust. top with diced fresh basil. Add tomatos on top making sure to leave the juices in the pot (you dont want soupy soggy pie)

Step 6: Mix tomato juices with veganaise (or mayo if you want) and pour over pie.

Step 7: Put cheese on top. I chose gouda and then crumbled some goat on there too!

Step 8: Bake until the crust starts to brown and the cheese is all melty

Step 9: ENJOY!!!!!!!

Sweet Potato Pizza + Awesome Gardenburger

Last night we finally tried Pizza Go! “Koreatown’s best pizza place.” YUMMMMMY!

We dont get pizza very often because the nutritional value for the cost that it is is pretty crappy…but we do love Korean pizza. The  wonders of Korean pizza is the sweet potato mousse they use. There’s several places in the neighborhood (Mr Pizza is the best and priciest) but I’ve been eyeing Pizzago for awhile…so last night we got one.

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]We got the Sweet Potato special pizza which was two kinds of cheeses garlic, sweet potato mousse on a olive oil base. SO GOOD!!!! We also got some pretty good cheese bread, and the total was $23 bucks. Normally when we get Mr. Pizza it is $30, so Im happy to know theres a cheaper place I can get sweet potato pizza from.

For lunch today I took a frozen garden burger, griddled it, and added guac, cheddar, roasted garlic, and tahini sauce to it. I sandwiched it between two lettuce leaves, but not before topping the whole shebang with 2 tortilla chips for crunch. It was more delicious than I was expecting!

Swiss Fair 2012

Went to the Socal Swiss Fair this past sunday in Whittier, Ca near LA. It was cute! So many swiss people wearing fun swiss gear. Peri and Jeremiah were in tow. Peri and I met at school in Lugano, Switzerland where we actually lived above a pizzeria/fondue restaurant (Ristorante Giardino)

Cheese
Jeremiah bought some raclette for us to share. They charged 8 bucks for a small plate o potato and roasted raclette on top. A little over priced. Anyways… the way it works is that wheel of raclette nests under this  hot plate that roasts the top layer all bubble… then the rotate the wheel out and scrape the meltyness directly on top of your potatoes. Twas delish. I had cheese spaetzli but didn’t take a picture cause Im lazy. Womp womp.

That night I made the samgyetang which i also failed to take a picture of. Im gonna have to get better at this. I also made a roast in my Le Creuset last night with organic brisket, potatos, sweet potatoes, cellery, carrot, garlic, and onion. It came out tender and delish. I deglazed the pan with red while for a delicious gravy jus yum yum yum.

Ive got to get better at taking pics before I chomp!

Pork Belly Outdoors

Im leaving in less than an hour to go to the Oscar Outdoors presentation of the Dark Crystal…its gonna be sick! If you arent familiar with outdoor movies in LA, its typical you can bring your own food and drink in. yay! So i decided to make B.rad and I some Pork Belly tacos + extra for friends.

Im bringing everything in a bowl cause I gots no foil! Bowl contains organic 3 color quinoa at the bottom.. a few tortillas that i grilled with smeared roasted garlic, and on top.. Pork Belly baked with a mixture of organic maple syrup, mustard, hot sesame oil, and brags. Im also bringing lettuce leaves for wraps and a homemade sauce made of blended red bell pepper, carrot juice, sauteed onion, tahini, mustard, and honey. Theres probably a few more things in the sauce but that gives you the general idea of whats goin into our bellies tonight!
